why ye actually became like this
ok so i've been sitting on this take for a while and i think most people get the kanye timeline completely wrong. everyone either goes "he's just a bad person now" or "it's all just bipolar, nothing to see here" and both of those are lazy. the real thing is way more specific than that and honestly kinda sad if you actually lay it out.
donda was the load bearing wall
people forget donda west wasn't just his mom, she was literally his manager. she filtered his world. and then in 2007 she dies from complications after a cosmetic surgery, at 58, and ye is back on stage 12 days later like nothing happened. he never actually grieved it. he's said himself he blames himself for it, said he's thought about ending it at least once a month since she died. that's not a guy who processed a loss, that's a guy who built his entire post-2007 career on top of a crack in the foundation and just kept building.
and this is the part people skip: there was also a car crash in 2002 that messed up his frontal lobe, and it straight up didn't get properly looked at until 2023. two decades of an undiagnosed brain injury sitting underneath everything. so it's not just grief, it's grief on top of an actual physical thing nobody caught.
kim wasn't the cause, she was the last thing holding it together
this is my actual take and i'll die on it: the divorce from kim is what actually broke him, not because breakups are sad, but because she was functionally the second donda. listen to what kim said on call her daddy, she talked about trying to be supportive after "his first mental break," about the lambos disappearing and reappearing depending on what episode he was in. she was managing instability the same way his mom used to.
and look at the actual dates. the divorce process wraps up around 2022, and that same october he's tweeting "death con 3" on jewish people. weeks later he's at dinner with trump and nick fuentes. by december he's on infosars saying he loves hitler. that's not a coincidence, that's a guy who lost his last stabilizing person and immediately went into freefall. the timing is too clean to ignore.
the antisemitism stuff, real talk
i'm not gonna sit here and defend what he said, it was genuinely disgusting and hurt actual people. but if you look at his own account of it, the wsj letter from january, he describes the mania as something that convinces you you're seeing clearly when you're actually the most disconnected from reality you've ever been. "it makes you blind but convinced you have insight" is such an accurate description of what an unmedicated manic episode does to someone. i think the hate speech era wasn't him revealing his true self, i think it was the illness at its absolute worst, completely unchecked, with zero stabilizing force left in his life. doesn't excuse it. does explain it.
and now
the 2025 four month manic episode he described sounds like the actual rock bottom, and bianca is the one who apparently pushed him to get real treatment, meds, therapy, the whole thing. and yeah his last few apologies lined up suspiciously well with album drops, i get why people are skeptical. but i think he's earned a little more benefit of the doubt than he's getting. the guy is out here touring stadiums again, 118k people in istanbul, meeting with jewish community leaders in person instead of just posting an apology and disappearing. that's not nothing.
the whole arc only makes sense if you follow it as one person losing every stabilizing force in his life back to back, not as some guy who just randomly turned evil one day. mom, then wife, then whatever was left of his grip on reality. people want a clean villain arc but this is just a guy in freefall who's now, finally, trying to climb back out.
stay grounded lads :P <3
